Most parents don't read the back of the bottle. We did.
Here's what's in standard drugstore mosquito products — and what's not in this kit.
DEET — neurotoxic at high concentrations. Restricted on infants under 2 months in the US.
Picaridin — synthetic, with concentration limits for children.
Permethrin — pyrethroid pesticide, toxic to cats and aquatic life.
Synthetic fragrance — a single label term that can hide hundreds of compounds.
Aerosol propellants — flammable, restricted at TSA, environmentally persistent.
What's in this kit: citronella, lemongrass, eucalyptus. That's the active list. That's all of it.
Independently tested by Poseidon Science R&D.
In a controlled test against the leading natural mosquito repellents on the market, BuzzPatch reduced bites by 16% more than the next-best alternative.
Real testing. Real numbers. Real reduction in bites — without anything chemical.

"Natural citronella patches offering gentle mosquito repellent for kids"
I suggest using BuzzPatch to parents as it contains a blend of citronella and other essential oils that decrease mosquito attraction by masking human odors. The patches are free from DEET, artificial fragrances, and soy, and are designed for sensitive skin. I like that they are applied to clothing to create a barrier that may help reduce mosquito bites.

"Peace of mind for parents seeking bite-free outdoor play for children"
If your child struggles with itchy mosquito bites or dislikes sprays and creams, BuzzPatch offers a plant-based option that uses citronella oil to help keep mosquitoes away. The patches are applied to clothing, can be used alongside sunscreen, and do not leave residue on skin. While plant-based options like BuzzPatch may provide a gentler level of protection compared to synthetic insecticides such as DEET, these patches offer a safe and effective choice for families seeking to avoid synthetic chemicals — with plant-based mosquito defense that is suitable for sensitive skin and daily use.

How AromaShield works.
Mosquitoes locate humans by sensing the carbon dioxide we exhale and the lactic acid we emit through our skin. Specific plant-derived compounds — particularly citronellol, eucalyptol, and limonene — interfere with this detection. They don't repel mosquitoes by being unpleasant; they confuse the chemoreceptors mosquitoes use to find a host.
BuzzPatch's AromaShield blend releases these compounds slowly from a patch on clothing, creating a 1–2 foot scent zone around the wearer. Because the active ingredients sit on fabric — not skin — concentrations remain low and exposure to the wearer is minimal. This is why the same formula works on a 2-month-old infant and a 70-year-old grandparent.
Citronella
Plant-derived scent masking for the cues mosquitoes follow.
Lemongrass
A botanical component in the active scent blend.
Eucalyptus
AromaShield support for a wider plant-based scent profile.
Clothing-first use
Protection sits on fabric, not skin, to reduce direct exposure.

My son has severe eczema. Every spray we tried left him with flare-ups. The patches go on his clothes — nothing on his skin. Game changer.

I read every label on every product I buy for my kids. This is the only mosquito product I've found where the ingredient list is shorter than the marketing copy.

I'm a registered nurse and I've recommended these to dozens of families. They work, they're safe, and they don't trigger the skin reactions I see all the time with DEET.

FAQ
Is it safe to use during pregnancy?
Yes. The active ingredients are plant-derived essential oils (citronella, lemongrass, eucalyptus), and the patch is applied to clothing — not skin. Many of our customers have used BuzzPatch through pregnancy and breastfeeding. As always, if you have specific concerns, check with your OB.
Is it safe while breastfeeding?
Yes. Patches go on clothing, not skin, so there's no transfer through skin contact. The essential-oil concentration in airspace is too low for systemic absorption to be a concern. Discuss with your provider if you have questions specific to your situation.
Can I use it on a newborn (under 8 weeks)?
We recommend starting from 8 weeks for the baby BuzzPatch. For under 8 weeks, use the slapband attached to the bassinet, stroller, or diaper bag (no skin contact, no clothing application required) plus dressing the baby in light long sleeves. Check with your pediatrician for very young infants.
What if my child has eczema or sensitive skin?
BuzzPatch is one of the few mosquito products eczema-prone families can use, because it's applied to clothing rather than skin. The medical-grade adhesive is gentle and won't transfer the active oils to skin. For ItchyPatch, we recommend a small patch test first if your child has known reactions to skin-contact adhesives.
Are essential oils safe for kids? What about G6PD deficiency?
The essential-oil concentration in BuzzPatch is calibrated for low-exposure topical-clothing use, not direct skin application or ingestion. For children with G6PD deficiency, the relevant concern is concentrated skin application of certain oils — which BuzzPatch does not involve, since patches sit on clothing. If your child has G6PD deficiency, check with your specialist before use.
Is it safe to use around cats and dogs?
BuzzPatch is safe to use around dogs. For cats, we recommend keeping the patches and any active ItchyPatch out of direct contact — cats are sensitive to certain essential oils, and even though the BuzzPatch concentration is low, we err on the side of caution.
What if my child has an allergy to citronella?
Citronella allergies are uncommon but real. If your child has had a reaction to citronella-containing products in the past, do not use BuzzPatch. The slapband, bracelets, and coil also contain plant-based oil blends — read the ingredient list before use.
How does it compare to DEET-based repellents on effectiveness?
DEET is more effective in extreme high-mosquito environments (think Amazon basin, Alaskan tundra at peak season). For most US conditions — backyard, camping, beach, suburban evenings — BuzzPatch performs comparably to lower-concentration DEET products, without any of the chemical exposure. For high-risk Zika or malaria zones, we recommend pairing the patch system with a doctor's protocol.
